Location: Landon Farm Community Trail, South Hero

 

Bring your kids and grandkids on a relaxed and informal ramble on the Landon Community Trail in South Hero. This easy walking trail is wonderful for exploring, observing, discovering and learning. Our two leaders are cheerful nature lovers who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about birds, plants, bugs and animals.

Participants are encouraged to bring any of the following: camera, notepads and pencils, binoculars, magnifying class and bug box. The most important thing to bring is your curiosity. Wear footwear that is appropriate for ground that might be wet or muddy. Also, protect yourself from ticks by wearing bug repellent and tucking long pants into your socks.

 

Maximum Number Of Students: 15

Student Age: 2-16 (under age 14  must be accompanied by an adult). We will break into two groups, depending on the ages of the participants.

In this class we will learn what makes a garden design inviting to the viewer. In the classroom portion  we will see examples of designs that work and that don’t work. At the outdoor session, we will learn how to put the classroom ideas into practice by  visiting a homeowners established garden and discussing what is working and what can be improved to help participants bring the classroom knowledge into the field and accordingly to their own spaces at home.

Location: Meet at statue of Samuel de Champlain at St. Anne’s Shrine on Isle La Motte. Transportation between sites mentioned below is on your own

 

Share in a journey through landscape and story while visiting inspirational sites on Isle La Motte. This time for reflection and discovery will begin at the statue of Samuel de Champlain at St. Anne’s shrine, then journey to the Goodsell Ridge Preserve for an easy walk through the millennium from the time of our inland sea as well as our own personal evolution. Our pilgrimage ends with a concert at Fisk Farm and refreshments from the Tea House (cost of any refreshments is on your own). Overlooking Lake Champlain, we will share our insights and discoveries from the journey.

Please wear comfortable shoes for walking, a portable folding chair if desired, water and a notebook or journal.

This class is an introduction to stop motion animation. Create your own characters out of clay and then animate them using stop motion techniques, animation stands and lighting. Once filming is complete, you’ll see the results  of your work when you put the animations onto a computer, where you will have the opportunity to add graphics and sound effects. Participants will work in small groups , so this is a great class to take with a friend. All participants will receive a DVD of all the projects completed during the class.
