SUMMARY:Lake Sorbet Poetry & Guitar
DESCRIPTION:Lake Sorbet Poetry & Guitar with Friends\nDate & Time: Saturday\, July 8\, 2023; 7:00 pm-8:30 pm\nLocation: Island Arts Center\, 1127 US Rt 2\, North Hero\, VT 05474\nTickets: $25 online and at the door\, $20 in advance at local outlets. \nCleanse your creative palate as artists\, poetry and music converge at the Homer Knight barn! Come join Sorbet\, poet Kathy Fisher and singer-songwriter Juliana Just Costa\, and Special Guests\, including pianist Peter Wetzler and flautist Zoe Just\, for a transporting\, eclectic and uplifting evening of words and music. \n“Sorbet cleanses the taste palate in between different courses of meals\, so that you can clearly distinguish the taste of different food with a brand-new freshness.” \nBlending elements of poetry\, song\, and spoken word\, Lake Sorbet’s one-of-a-kind performance art promises to deliver a medley of words and music\, in various iterations. As Montreal-based duo Sorbet and special guests\, the artists will weave together an evocative tapestry of sound\, as they offer original poems\, woven with found sound and improv music\, alternating with select pieces\, original and covers. Hear the artists voices\, solo or in duets\, accompanied by the instrument of the moment – be it acoustic guitar\, piano\, flute\, or beatbox – or some combination. Be surprised! \nKathy Fisher is a multidisciplinary artist\, performance poet and documentarian\, for over 30 years she has worked as a storyteller researcher and oral historian. She has performed across North America\, in Mexico and France. A keen collaborator\, she regularly performs spoken word and song with a roster of musicians. Her video-poem wabi-sabi\, produced in collaboration with film maker Louise Abbott\, is available on Vimeo. See: https://vimeo.com/471188512. Kathy will captivate you with stories from Isle La Motte and poems grounded in this Lake Champlain landscape\, through Montreal and Alberta. \nWith her sweet\, smooth vocals and acoustic guitar\, Juliana Just Costa will take you on a sonic journey as she draws from pop\, soul and Latin rhythms in English\, French\, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Her time living in Mexico and her Brazilian background infuse her music with colorful Latin flavor. A versatile and dynamic vocalist\, Juliana describes her sound as a mix of folk and Jazz\, with hip-hop and blues influence. \nTogether\, they mix it all up. The audience will be treated to special guests Kingston\, NY-based pianist and composer Peter Wetzler who will offer an original\, unconventional and spellbinding performance on a gorgeous grand piano. Peter Wetzler has worked as a composer of music for dance\, theater television and film\, and multimedia. While devoting his life to uncovering the exquisite relationship of sound and movement\, Peter’s passion has also been to the power of music to transform society and heal. Flautist and singer Zoe Just\, is Juliana’s mother and will accompany her. \nGet TicketsBACK TO ALL EVENTS
