Haenni\, accomplished bassist from New Orleans\, and Dan Ryan on drums. A special guest is to be announced. (It’s a surprise—you’ll like it!) \nThe quartet will play—and sing—songs by composers they didn’t get around to last summer. This year you will hear music by George Gershwin\, Duke Ellington\, Irving Berlin\, Rodgers & Hart\, Lerner & Loewe\, and Matt Dennis. And music by Cole Porter\, Leonard Bernstein\, Johnny Mercer\, and others––some well-known\, some not-so-well-known. \nHaiduck and Heckendorn have performed and recorded together for many years in the New York City area. Clarinetist Neal Haiduck has played jazz and classical music in New York City\, Montréal\, London\, Europe\, South America\, and Japan. He now makes his home in Burlington\, where he makes the lively jazz scene. \nPianist David Heckendorn was the orchestrator for “Mr. Holland’s Opus.” His compositions have been performed in various American venues\, including St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Birdland in New York City\, and in Europe and East Europe. He lives in Ulster County\, New York. \nGET TICKETSBACK TO ALL EVENTS

SUMMARY:The Dixie Six
DESCRIPTION:The Dixie SixDate: Sunday August 11\, 2024\, 6:00 pm; This concert will be held inside the barn due to weather.\nBring your picnic for 5:30pm or just come for the music!\nLocation: Island Arts Center\, 1127 U.S. Rte. 2\, North Hero\nTickets: $15 online and at the door. Chairs are available. \nVermont’s Dixie Six is a band well-loved by Island Arts’ audiences\, and the group is well-known in the greater Burlington music scene. These six Vermont musicians focus on the sound and repertoire of Louis Armstrong’s All Stars of the 1950’s and 1960’s. The All Stars are famous for hits such as “Blueberry Hill\,” “Mack the Knife\,” and “Hello\, Dolly!” which blew “the Beatles off the top of pop charts at the height of Beatlemania.” This lively jazz still thrills\, appealing to all ages. Though retaining a traditional Dixie feel\, band’s updated rhythm section gives a new energy to New Orleans classics and mid-century standards. \n“Thanks to Island Arts for inviting us to play. We hope you enjoy the music as much as we enjoy playing it for you.”\n~ The Dixie Six \nListen to a recent performance: \nTICKETS BACK TO ALL EVENTS

These ten gems of yoga wisdom are beacons to help us integrate the wisdom of yoga off the mat and into our lives in big and little ways. The classes will include a dharma talk\, yoga set\, meditation\, and a gong relaxation.  No experience is necessary.  All are welcome.  Please bring your own yoga mat.  However\, a few will be available for use. \n(In partnership with North Hero Parks and Recreation and Island Arts) \nKim Muncil\nKim is a native of Vermont and returns each summer to North Hero with her husband Bob. She is a 500 hr certified Kundalini Yoga and meditation teacher and a certified Yin Yoga teacher. Prior to retirement Kim taught elementary school for 34 years.

This practice consists of going into a pose\, finding stillness\, and then connecting to the breath while holding the pose for 3-4 minutes.  Most poses are seated poses similar to stretching poses. This is a great practice for people with an active mind as well as an active body.  If you are new to yoga this is a wonderful place to start.  \n(In partnership with North Hero Parks and Recreation and Island Arts) \nFor Beginner\, Aging\, Active\, and Athletic \nBob Muncil \nBob loves fishing and playing pickleball in North Hero in the summertime.  He is a certified Yin Yoga and meditation teacher and has experienced the benefits they offer to his aging and athletic body; and for quieting his busy mind. Bob is also an Interventionist and Recovery Coach and has been sober for 31 years. He has made it his mission in retirement to share the benefits of yoga\, meditation\, and sobriety wherever he goes.
