Long a favorite of Island Arts’ audiences\, Citizens Concert Band offers a mix of toe-tapping music that includes traditional band favorites\, jazzy numbers\, and show and pop tunes cleverly adapted for its mix of musicians. A community band based in St. Albans\, its 35 to 40 musicians range from high school age through adults. \nThe Band has a long history. Founded in 1946 under the American Legion umbrella by soldiers returning home from World War II\, it has been going strong ever since. A single conductor\, Edric Loomis\, led the band from 1946 when he was 28 years old until his retirement after the 2001 season. The Counterpoint chamber ensemble headlines\, with the Green Mountain Chorus and the Chordination barbershop quartet. \nChordination \nCounterpoint features a variety of repertory from folksongs\, African-American spirituals\, sacred music of many traditions\, and concert works by classical composers of our own age and the past. Founded by legendary Vermont choral director and arranger Robert De Cormier in 2000\, the group is now directed by Nathanial G. Lew. Counterpoint has released 11 CDs. \nMen from Vermont and Quebec have sounded the chords of Barbershop harmony together as the Green Mountain Chorus for over 70 years. A unique form of a cappella singing\, Barbershop employs close four-part harmony. Gong baths are known to reduce stress and aid in the flow of emotions.
