SUMMARY:Marsh Lights Concert
DESCRIPTION:Marsh Lights\nDate and Time: Sunday\, Aug. 24\, 2025; 4-5:30 PM. Grounds open at 3:30.\nOptional picnic on the green. Bring a chair or blanket if desired. If weather requires\, concert will move inside the barn.\nLocation: Island Arts Center\, 1127 US Rt 2\, North Hero\, VT 05474\nTickets: FREE concert for all to enjoy. Sponsored by anonymous Vermont donors. Registration requested and appreciated but not required. \nVermont musician Colby Crehan\, former vocalist and songwriter for the Bluegrass Gospel Project and Possum Haw\, reunites with her Possum Haw bandmates in the 5-piece acoustic project Marsh Lights. \nMarsh Lights plays acoustic folk-grass music. The program features songs composed by Crehan. “Colby Crehan is a powerful and magnificently talented musician.”–– Robert Resnik\, host\, All the Traditions\, Vermont Public Radio. \nMarsh Lights’ new songs explore bravery\, darkness\, spirituality\, and grace with lyrics that often employ metaphoric places and female heroes and perspectives. And Marsh Lights pulls from the old songbook of PossumHaw\, particularly the songs found on their last recording\, the live 2017 album Limberpine. The band also plays instrumentals written by banjoist Ryan Crehan and mandolinist Stephen Waud. Charley Eiseman’s warm vocals join Colby and Ryan’s for hauntingly sweet three-part harmonies. Charley plays lead acoustic guitar with nuanced blues and jazz inflections. Mitch Barron\, a long-time essential presence in the Vermont folk music scene\, brings his skilled upright bass playing to the stage\, along with deep\, rich vocal backup. \nVermont Vocalist of the Year\nVermont Song of the Year\n“The combination of talent\, passion\, and songwriting in the band is breathtaking.”\n– Mary-Nell Bockman\, Whallonsburg Grange \nBACK TO ALL EVENTS

SUMMARY:Painting Color - A Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Painting Color – A Demonstration with\nJarvis Wilcox\nDATE AND TIME: Saturday\, August 9\, 2025; 2:00 – 3:00 pm.\nLOCATION: Island Arts Center\, 1127 US Rte. 2\, North Hero.\nTICKETS: FREE Outside weather permitting. \nThis event is a demonstration\, not a class\,  scheduled to be outside\, you are invited to bring a chair for your comfort. \nA demo of color in painting is a visual presentation\, often by an artist\, showcasing\nhow colors are mixed\, applied\, and used to create various effects in a painting.\nThese demonstrations can cover a wide range of topics\, from basic color theory and mixing techniques to more advanced concepts like color harmony and using color to create mood and atmosphere.\n\nJarvis Wilcox is an artist of his times – his themes characterize his view of our world.\nHis approach converts the commonplace into occasions for contemplation. Sensitive to Nature\, Jarvis captures on canvas the imagery of county scenes many of which are near his East Hampton\, CT home.\n\n\n“So you have finally settled on a particular scene to paint\, but how to bring it off? I suggest beginning with the basic color chords of your subjects and mixing seven or eight colors with  which you can make a complete\, though unfinished statement. At this point you can decide how to compose the symphony and which color chords are going to predominate the symphony to carry your insights.  \n    I will try to give you a structure you can use to arrive at the colors you need and how to mix them.  Obviously I believe color to be the heart and soul of the art of picture making. It is the sine qua non of this art. I will aim to give you a tool to aid in the appreciation of the dance of color” – Jarvis Wilcox\n\nJarvis Wilcox “Clearing”Sign Up

In high school and at Middlebury College\, he began studying jazz and exploring other styles of violin playing\, eventually moving to France to study with jazz violin legend Didier Lockwood. Ben spent 15 years working in New York City\, much of his time in Broadway pits. \nJohn Dunlop\, cello\, has been principal cellist with the Vermont Symphony\, Burlington Chamber Orchestra\, Opera Company of Middlebury\, Opera North\, Vermont Mozart Festival\, Vermont Virtuosi\, and Green Mountain Opera Festival. He has performed as soloist with both the VSO and BCO. John is also the cellist with TURNmusic\, which features many interesting young composers of our time. He studied under Richard Kapuscinski at Oberlin Conservatory and Bonnie Hampton at the San Francisco Conservatory\, and has played in master classes for Yo Yo Ma\, Jerry Grossman\, Steve Doane\, and others. John has also composed and recorded several award-winning film soundtracks for short films\, including a documentary on childhood hunger in Vermont\, where he called on his skills as a guitarist and bouzouki player in addition to cello. He has played for Bernadette Peters\, Lyle Lovett and Phish. John is Vermont’s busiest cellist!  \nAna Ruesink\, viola\, enjoys exploring musical styles and traditions. An active freelance musician\, she performs with the Vermont Symphony\, Playing for Good\, Dartmouth Symphony\, and other regional ensembles. She plays English country dance music with her band Impropriety\, Irish and Scandinavian tunes with her trio Symphony Reel\, and an eclectic mix of old-time and traditional music with the Barker Family String Band (featuring her guitar-playing husband and two daughters). Beyond her musical pursuits\, Ana likes to read\, hike\, and make kefir. \nPROGRAM:  http://www.islandarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Program-SKYLARK-25-July-2025.pdf \nGet TicketsBACK TO ALL EVENTS

SUMMARY:Little Women - The Broadway Musical
DESCRIPTION:Little Women – The Broadway MusicalDates and Times:  Saturday\, July 20 at 2 PM\nLocation: Island Arts Center\, 1127 US Rt 2\, North Hero\, VT 05474\nTickets:   $20 General admission $15 Students \nPerformances July 18th through July 20th\nJuly 18\, 2025 7:00pm\nJuly 19\, 2025 2:00pm & 7:00pm\nJuly 20\, 2025 2:00pm \nLouisa May Alcott’s beloved story\, “Little Women\,” has never been more relevant. With its themes of sisterhood\, challenging traditional gender roles\, and celebrating the powerful contributions of women throughout American history\, this story continues to resonate across generations. \nBased on Louisa May Alcott’s life\, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters Jo\, Meg\, Beth\, and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication\, but the publishers are not interested – her friend\, Professor Bhaer\, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself.
