Boogie on the Bayou – the Zydeco and Cajun sounds of Louisiana! Lots of room to dance and space for kids to move around. \nMango Jam Vermont\, a six-piece dance band from Burlington\, plays straight-ahead Zydeco as well as New Orleans-inspired funk\, Reggae\, and Ska. Its infectious beats and great sound will get your feet moving. This program consists of three free events that will take place at the Island Arts Center barn for kids of all ages and their families\, including parents and guardians that are feeling young at heart!  \nSara Bullis\, a mail carrier and farmer from Grand Isle\, will be facilitating these family friendly events once a month beginning in June and if enjoyed more events will be offered next summer and throughout the year.  \nThe Youthful Circle events for this 2025 summer are two family movie nights at the barn on Friday June 27th and August 1st at 6pm. Bring a chair or blanket if desired. \nLocation: Island Arts Center\, 1127 US Rt 2\, North Hero\, VT 05474\nTickets: FREE concert for all to enjoy. Registration requested and appreciated but not required. \nPianist Jacqueline Schwab performs her solo program “Making Magic with Ken Burns.” Heard for many years on numerous Ken Burns’ documentaries\, in this concert\, she will feature pieces from her Burns soundtrack performances—vintage American folk tunes and standards\, spirituals\, traditional Celtic tunes and more. She will also share some of her own work celebrating cultural diversity\, inspired by her work with Burns.  \nSchwab will speak about the tunes and Burns’ unusual way of working with music—how he inspires emotive performances and uses music to amplify his messages and shed historical light on today’s world. This will be Jacqueline’s first Island Arts appearance. She spins musical stories out of the many strands in the American quilt\, with community music-making at their heart.  \nHer signature playing has been featured in over a dozen Ken Burns’ documentaries\, including his Grammy-winning Civil War\, Baseball\, Lewis and Clark\, Mark Twain\, The War\, and his recently-released Benjamin Franklin\, as well as in other PBS documentaries\, such as The Irish in America—The Long Journey Home. She has performed at the White House and on national PBS\, accompanied Scottish singer Jean Redpath on A Prairie Home Companion\, and appeared on the CBS Late Show with David Letterman. She is well known to the traditional dance world for her groundbreaking playing with the Bare Necessities ensemble. Her recently-released solo album––I Lift My Lamp\, Illuminations from Immigrant America––celebrates vintage music from American immigrants. She is a graduate of the New England Conservatory’s Third Stream Department (now Contemporary Music) with a degree in piano improvisation. You will enjoy the Green Mountain Chorus\, the Chordination barbershop quartet\, and –new this season– the VLQ (Very Large Quartet)\, Offshoots. \nThe Green Mountain Chorus of men from Vermont and Quebec has sounded the chords of Barbershop harmony together for 77 years. A unique form of a cappella singing\, Barbershop employs close four-part harmony. This chorus\, directed by the Cerutti brothers\, livens it up with a little audience participation. \nChordination is a quartet of talented and well-known singers. Neil Schell sings Lead\, Neil & Charlie Cerutti sing Baritone & Tenor respectively\, and Karl Naden is the Bass. They deliver tunes from pop\, folk\, and Broadway traditions arranged in the Barbershop Style. DESCRIPTION:Eclectica String QuartetDate and Time: Friday July 26\, 2024\, 7 PM\, without intermission.\nLocation: Island Arts Center\, 1127 US Rt 2\, North Hero\, VT 05474\nTickets: Free event due generous sponsors.\nRegistration is requested but not required.\nTables: UPDATE: TABLES ARE SOLD OUT! Reserve a table for seating (free\, normally $14 for a 2-top\, $20 for a 4-top). Table reservations are available online or at the door\, first come-first served\, and subject to availability. \nThis fine Vermont chamber ensemble is dedicated to exploring the boundaries of the string quartet repertoire. The concert will feature music from Baroque to jazz to Nordic folk\, and much in between. These soulful lyrical tunes fill a concert of approximately one hour of music\, without intermission. \nThe members of Eclectica String Quartet are Sofia Hirsch\, Laura Markowitz\, Ana Ruesink\, and John Dunlop. You can hear them playing with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and moonlighting with other groups such as JukeBox\, Turn Music\, and Cricket Blue.
