Vermont eBird shows that the Mud Creek WMA “hotspot” has 173 species reported as of 2023. The Champlain Islands are bursting with birds in August! Year-round birds are here, of course. Birds that nested and raised their young here but go south for the winter are still here. And birds that nested in the far north are beginning to come through our area on their way south. It’s possible to see an extraordinary number of species at this time of year, more than at any other time of the year. We’ll enjoy wonderful photos of just some of this birding bonanza!
