The Island Arts (IA) board of directors is happy to announce that, succeeding Lyn Jarvis, Tony Pietricola is Island Arts’ new Vice President. Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Tony to the IA Executive Board of Directors!
Tony Pietricola graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Music Degree with a major in Music Education. He received his Masters Degree in musical performance from Northern Illinois University and earned additional credits from Arizona State University and the Eastman School of Music.

Tony taught in Ithaca, NY, the Silver Lake Regional School District in Massachusetts, and Grand Isle County, VT. He was the instrumental music teacher at Charlotte Central School, grades 5 – 8 from 1985 until retiring from public school teaching after 40 years as a music teacher in June of 2009. Presently he is an Arts Consultant and is a lecturer with the University of Vermont Music Department.
At the Vermont State level, Tony has coordinating revisions of the standards in the Vermont Framework for the four art forms: Visual Arts, Music, Dance and Drama. He was administrator of the Vermont Music Performance Benchmarking Project, through a Goals 2000 grant he received from the US Dept. of Ed. through the Vt. Dept. of Ed. Tony was a member of the Vermont Arts Assessment Design Team, and a founding member of the Vermont Midi Project. He is a past president of the Vermont Music Educators Association and was selected as the 2003 Vermont Music Educator of the year. Tony has presented at many conferences statewide, regionally and nationally.
Tony has done extensive work in standards and assessment projects in Vermont and nationally, participating in the S.C.A.S.S. arts assessment project, under the Council of Chief State School Officers, in Washington, DC.
A regular member of the Vermont Jazz Ensemble, he also has performed with the Vermont Symphony, Lyric Theatre Orchestra, St. Michaels Playhouse Pit Orchestra, Vermont Winds, Vermont Saxophone Ensemble.
Tony officially joined the Island Arts board of directors about 7 years ago and became its first Academy Dean responsible for IA artistic and cultural offerings of classes. He himself has been teaching a yearly week of Jazz improvisation class convincing director Larry McCrorey that improvisation could be taught!
Tony lives in Grand Isle, with his wife Susan. Island Arts is a 501(c)(3) arts and education organization serving Grand Isle County. All benefit goes to its County Youth Program. Please explore our website for more information or to volunteer.
