Appalachian Old-Time music is about fun. It’s about community and sharing decades of memories, stories and community history through music. It reflects our diverse cultural heritage, melding musical influences from African Americans, Native Americans and immigrants from the British Isles and Scandinavia.
It comes from a time before you could push a button to hear music. If you wanted music, you had to make it yourself. Old-Time music is about participation more than performance. It’s about finding a collective groove rather than a showcase for individual virtuosity.
Our spirited dance tunes can melt the ice from Lake Champlain. Our haunting, slower tunes reflect resilience in the face of hard times. As a folk tradition, Old Time music continues to evolve in the hollows and hills of the Appalachian Mountains.
The Pluckers are Linda Wickenden, Terry Carstensen, Nancy Jacobus and Robin Edelman.
